Keep That Old Cell Phone

Last year my oldest child (eventually) told me he lost his cell phone.

After cooling down, I dug through my graveyard of electronics and found an old clunker cell phone and activated it to his account.

This phone wasn’t the size of a loaf of bread, but it definitely wasn’t as slick as his phone was.

About a month went by and he found his old phone – he found it playing hide-and-seek when he hid in the same place as he had previously!

Recently a client’s touch screen phone died and they have about 6 months before they can buy another at a reasonable price.

Old cell phone to the rescue!!

I’m not suggesting anyone become a cell-phone-hoarder…I surely don’t want a new reality show based on this.

BUT – it is a good idea to have one backup cell phone on hand just-in-case.

There are a few requirements:

  • The phone must be from the same carrier
  • The phone can’t be too old

The best way to do this is to keep the last phone you might have gotten rid of.

Activating a new (old) phone is rather simple, a quick call to your carrier and it will be done – same phone number and everything.

Keeping an old backup cell phone is a great way to be ready for that inevitable lost or broken cell phone situation.
